Berlin, 2021

Leerolina was our first ever project, which consisted of several workshops with children. The workshops resulted in a co-designed public space installation in Berlin, as well as a poster exhibition.

The name LeerOlina comes from combining two words: Leer (=germ. "empty") and Berolina (=female personification of the city Berlin). The project took place in spring 2021  in Haus der Statistik, (previously abandoned, now neighbourhood-run building for arts and community projects) in central Berlin. More about the space: https://hausderstatistik.org/veranstaltung/projekt-leerolina/

By putting children in the shoes of urban planners through several tasks in several workshops, packed together with playful and investigative approach, we tried to find out:

  • how the children see their neighborhood through their perspective?

  • what would they change in their neighborhood?

  • how would they design the neighborhood to better fit their needs?

Our main aim was to co-design a playful spatial intervention in the street: a "site-specific" installation near Haus der Statistik in Berlin: one that can be used by everyone and make the neighbourhood more spontaneous and fun.
