Berlin, 2021
Leerolina was a project consisting of workshops with children, co-designing playful public space and installations in Berlin.
LeerOlina was a first project created by Studio Mono/Mint, consisting of several workshops and an exhibition. The name comes from combining two words: Leer (=germ. "empty") and Berolina (=female personification of the city Berlin).
The project took place in spring 2021 in Haus der Statistik, (previously abandoned, now neighbourhood-run building for arts and community projects) in central Berlin. https://hausderstatistik.org/veranstaltung/projekt-leerolina/ (in German).
By putting children in the shoes of urban planners through several tasks in several workshops, packed together with playful and investigative approach, we tried to find out:
- how the children see their neighborhood through their perspective?
- what would they change in their neighborhood?
- how would they design the neighborhood to better fit their needs?
In the exhibition they showed the children's process of building scale models for the neighborhood; out of cardboard, textile and other. The final goal was to co-design a playful spatial intervention in the street: a "site-specific" installation near Haus der Statistik in Berlin, one that can be used by everyone and make the neighbourhood more spontaneous and fun.
